"Christ, I'm stuck." Harry's voice reverberated around the bare cupboard he was stuffed into. He tried to open it again, jiggling at the catch. Shit! He banged on the door, and sneezed, as dust motes attacked his nose.

It was dark in the cupboard. After a while, he rattled the doors again, more half-heartedly this time. After all, who would be wandering around the corridors at this time, other than him? "Who's that?" And Snape, it seemed. Harry groaned silently.

"It's Potter, sir. I got stuck."

"I should have guessed." Harry pictured the sneer and winced inwardly. Snape had turned out to be worthy of respect, and Harry kept hoping that Snape would feel the same about him, but it never appeared to happen. "Are you incapable of letting yourself out? It's a simple charm."

"I broke my wand last week, Professor. I'm waiting for a replacement."

"You
broke your wand?" Snape sounded honestly appalled, and Harry winced again. "How perhaps left unasked."

"I trod on it, Professor."

"Potter, you are without doubt one of the most careless students I have ever had the displeasure of coming into contact with. You stood. On your wand."

"Yes, Professor. The dorm's a bit of a mess. It rolled off my bedside table in the night."

"Why was it on your bedside table? Why was it not under your pillow?"

Harry's leg was beginning to cramp, and he wished Snape would get on with the "simple charm", but he answered politely. "I sometimes mutters charms in my sleep, sir. It occasionally goes off. Could you let me out, sir?"

"Patefacere." Harry pushed at the door again, and it swung open smoothly, with no resistance. He tumbled out, against Snape. He had a moment to register
warm. lean before he was firmly grasped by the elbows and set on his feet. The corridor was too dim to see Snape's expression. "Potter. Get a wand as quickly as possible. It's inconvenient. And dangerous." Snape's warmth seemed to come a little nearer for a second, before he pulled away. "And twenty points from Gryffindor for wandering around and having the stupidity to get stuck in a cupboard."

Before Harry could respond, Snape was gone. He sucked in a deep breath, and touched his cheek. It was flaming. From embarrassment, he informed himself.
