Washu is a galaxy famouse mad scientist.She is also one of three goddesses.Out of these three she is the most powerful.She had all her memories and powers sealed in three gems as punishment for something.This is why she has never told anyone she is a goddess.Shortly after losing her power Washu created Ryoko with the aid of her lab assistants Kagato and Yakage.Yakage was charged with the job of creatin the perfect sword for Ryoko.Yakage stole some of Ryoko's cells and made his own Ryoko,called Minagi.Shortly after Ryoko was created,Kagato captured Washu in her own invention and manipulated Ryoko.

When Kagato recaptured Ryoko in the OAV and seeminly killed Tenchi the girls present went to avenge Tenchi.During this Mihoshi accedentally released Washu for her prison.In Tenchi Universe Washu was exiled and placed in a large crystal,the crystal was sent into space and just left to float.It eventually found its way to Earth where the local people put it in the cave Ryoko was sealed in during Tenchi Muyo!.One night many centuries later,Tenchi and Ryoko break into the cave.Ayeka follows them.When they reach Washu's crystal Ayeka begins to fight with Ryoko.Ryoko picks up the crystal and throw it at Ayeka.Ayeka's force field stop it and it begins to crack.A glowing light chases them all back to Tenchi's grandfathers house where he (Tenchi's grandfather) tells it that it's had enough fun.The light fades and Washu is revealed.Soon after Washu turns Ayeka and Ryoko into water sprites.

Washu has a sub-space lab located under Tenchi's stairs.Its location is actually on five diffrent planets connected by interdimensional worm-hole.

Sometime in Washu's past she had a child.This child was taken from her due to the fathers social status.Washu felt that,in the apperence of a twelve year old,such thing wouldn' matter.At the end of OAV 8 Washu "grew up" and offered to have another child if Tenchi was the father.As you'd exepect,this didn't go down well with Ayeka and Ryoko,the offer still stands.
