Azaka and Kamidake serve as Ayeka's gurdians.They obey her without qurstion and serve as companions,advisors and guards.The reason they look like logs is because they are made from the tree of Jurai.
They can both fire their lasers and fly about individually,but when they are both physically present they can create a very powerful electrical field which can be used for offensive and defensive porpouses.
In Tenchi Universe they were used to house the spirits of the knights shown above.
