Stephanie Peppers Theater 2633 10-20-00 Screenplay INT. LIVING ROOM-DAY The camera starts on the mantle, slowly panning over the pictures. We see the family portrait. Picture of ANGIE-graduation/prom/school picture etc. SUSAN in a cheerleading outfit. All this going on as the sound of computer typing is heard. The shot cuts to Angie’s hands typing. She reaches across the desk to the scattered papers. The camera cuts to a close up on her face. ANGIE: (sighs and rubs her face then places her hands back onto the keys smiling) Brilliant! She resumes typing and the camera turns to focus over her shoulder. SUSAN walks in but stops short as she sees ANGIE. SUSAN: (crossing her arms over her chest) Why are you here? ANGIE: (closing her eyes) You mean on Earth or here in this room? The camera zooms in on SUSANS face and she sticks her tongue out at ANGIE, and crosses to the sofa. ANGIE: (still typing) I saw that. SUSAN: Shut-up. (She flops onto the sofa, her arm flung across her face dramatically.) ANGIE: (Turns in the chair to regard SUSAN with a mock smile.) Wow! Intelligent conversation. I’d almost forgotten why I moved out. Thanks Sue, dear. ANGIE spins back around in the chair. The camera shoots from the side. We see SUSAN lying on the couch framed in between ANGIE and the computer. SUSAN: (glaring) Really what are you doing here? ANGIE: (still staring at the screen) I thought I could mix with the common folk. You know out among the mindless masses as a bit of a thrill. (She turns to see SUSAN looking utterly confused) Jesus. My computer is broken ok. SUSAN: (laughing) Good for you! Hurry up I want to check my email. ANGIE ignores her and jumps up as the printer starts to hum. The camera follows her across the room and then up onto the couch as she dances in victory. SUSAN: (looking confused) Are you all right? ANGIE: (jumping on the couch) I just finished my essay! 20 pages of pure genius. I am an English god!!!! SUSAN: (trying to avoid ANGIES jumps) You just know a lot of big words to impress teachers. The camera shoots from the floor looking up at the two girls. ANGIE: (sits beside SUSAN) Come on! I just finished a freaking long essay! Be happy for me! SUSAN: (looking down) Yeah whatever…happy…happy… The camera remains on ANGIES face as the conversation continues. ANGIE: (smile fades and she looks horrified) What is the problem Sue? God, you’re crying. SUSAN: (sniffling) I want to tell you something. But I know you will get mad at me. I am so stupid. ANGIE: (she is confused now and leans expectantly toward SUSAN) Did you do something to the car? SUSAN: (sobbing) Angie you don’t understand! I did something…bad not happy…happy. ANGIE: What are you talking about? The camera turns to SUSANS face as the conversation continues. SUSAN: (crying) Mom said not to tell you. That you’d get mad. It would just upset you. She wants everyone to be happy…happy. I took some pills, Angie. Bad pills not happy ones. (She gets wild eyed and starts shaking her head) I took a lot of them…I had to go to the hospital. I almost died, Angie. Do you want me to die? The camera pulls back to show both girls. It shifts up until it is eye level with them. ANGIE: (staring at SUSAN) Are you crazy? I don’t want you to die, Sue! Why did you take those pills it was a stupid thing to do! (Lowering her head) Why didn’t you tell me? Dammit! Why didn’t mom tell me? SUSAN: (shakes her head and wipes her face) Don’t be mad at mom. It was my fault. Everyone hates me. I felt bad and sick…make it stop, Angie. ANGIE: (jumping up) No one hates you! Stop it right now! I am not going to let you go crazy on me. I don’t know exactly what is going on…but I am calling mom right now and straightening this out. The camera follows ANGIES back as she strides across the room. She stops suddenly and turns to regard SUSAN. The camera shoots SUSAN (still on the couch) from ANGIES perspective. SUSAN: (smiling through tears) You do love me? ANGIE: I am calling mom. Get a grip. Be right back. Close up on SUSAN as ANGIES footsteps fade away. The camera stays on her face as she tries to dry her tears. SUSAN: (Voice Over) All I wanted was love. Why didn’t she just say it then? I hate you Angie and I want you to know that. That was the last time you spoke to me. Did you know that I would be dead 2 hours later? Live with that guilt for the rest of your life. Just like I had to live in your shadow… SUSAN gets up from the couch and the camera follows her to the bathroom where she opens the medicine cabinet. INT. BATHROOM-NIGHT ANGIE sits on the corner of the bathtub stone faced reading the crumpled piece of paper. The camera shoots up from the floor. As the VO continues the camera turns around and shoots down until we see SUSANS body slumped on the floor. SUSAN: (Voice Over continued)…you were always the smart one Angie. So I guess it doesn’t matter that I am dead. You got what you wanted and so did I. Don’t be mad at me Angie, dear. I am pissed enough for the both of us. The camera pulls in slowly on SUSANS scowling face, and then fades to black.
