| March 05, 2002 Kobe Bryant and Reggie Miller have been suspended and fined by the NBA for their roles in an altercation at the conclusion of the Indiana at Los Angeles game March 1. Bryant has been suspended for two games without pay and fined $12,500 for throwing a punch and fighting. Miller has been suspended for two games without pay and fined $10,000 for retaliating against Bryant and fighting. The fines and suspensions were announced March 3 by NBA Senior Vice President, Basketball Operations, Stu Jackson. |
| February 25, 2002 Shaquille O'Neal was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, Feb. 18 through Sunday, Feb. 24. O'Neal, returning from a stint on the injured list, led the Lakers to a 3-1 record by posting averages of 29.3 points and 10.8 rebounds. Here is a look at the week for Shaq: Tuesday vs. Boston: In his first game since Feb. 3, had 25 points, on 9-of-10 shooting from the field, and 17 rebounds in one-point loss to the Celtics. Friday at Charlotte: Recorded 31 points and seven rebounds in 96-94 victory over the Hornets. Sunday at New York: Had 30 points, 15 rebounds and five assists in 107-91 victory over the Knicks. Other Western Conference candidates for NBA Player of the Week were Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki, Houston's Cuttino Mobley and Phoenix's Stephon Marbury. |
