SOUTHS SUCCEED IN FEDERAL COURT CHALLENGE

South Sydney today won an appeal against its expulsion from the National Rugby League, opening the way for a possible return to competition.


The Federal Court in Melbourne handed down the decision via a video link to Sydney.


It was not immediately clear whether the decision will allow the club to take part in next year's competition.


Hundreds of South Sydney supporters were overjoyed at the news, sparking emotional scenes outside the court in Sydney.


The club's legal team said they would examine the decision and make an announcement about their next steps later today.
