Hardly an exciting fixture for the neutrals, with Souths having lost nine of their last 10 games and the Storm ending their six-match losing streak last round with a draw against the equally out-of-sorts Dragons. The Rabbitohs have the worst attack and the second-worst defence in the league, while the Storm haven't won since round six. Following form, Melbourne five-eighth Scott Hill is the only player from either team on Origin duty.

Souths were denied a try shortly before halftime when video referee Chris Ward ruled that Owen Craigie was offside when he picked up a Wade McKinnon kick and fed it back to the five-eighth who went over in the right corner. The Rabbitohs needed a rocket blast at the break but all coach Craig Coleman could serve up was praise, telling his side they played well for 30 minutes of the first 40.

Souths, who have now lost four consecutive games, made the stronger start forcing back to back sets with a well weighted kick to the in goal and applied great pressure to the Warriors' line. Luke Stuart actually touched down but the video referee rightly ruled that he was offside when he received the ball. It was one of two occasions referee Tim Mander went upstairs inside the first 10 minutes.

Since joining Souths this season, Wade McKinnon and Brad Watts have become inseparable off the field, so coach Craig Coleman decided to pair them at the scrum base this weekend. McKinnon, who last played five-eighth in juniors at the Roosters, and Watts - from Brisbane via Melbourne - are close friends. With Andrew King's form in first division worthy of a promotion, Coleman hit on the idea of playing him at fullback and experimenting with McKinnon in the No6 jersey. The Warriors have no injury concerns.

The Rabbitohs turned on free beer for the first time in 10 years at their Redfern Leagues club last night when club president George Piggins gave the faithful the second best news possible: their licensed club is now debt free. "This is the next big thing to being reinstated in the National Rugby League," Piggins said. "We have paid our debt and can get on with being a 21st century club. We can now finally shout a drink." Piggins said a deal he brokered between AMP and developer Colomex would result in the construction of home units on the site of an abandoned warehouse next to the club, with the car park going underground.

The high-flying Warriors will be out to extend their record-winning sequence to eight matches when they take on South Sydney this Saturday night. The Warriors are undefeated in Australia this season, beating North Queensland, Wests Tigers, Newcastle and Melbourne. The club�s only �away� loss was to the Bulldogs in Wellington. The Warriors� best away season was 1995 when they won seven from 11.

Errant Roosters centre Justin Hodges seems likely to be reinstated to first grade after he was dropped on Thursday for not showing up to training. Coach Ricky Stuart will make a decision over the weekend; if he's not back, a new reserve will have to be found. The Rabbitohs are fit, with Terry Lamey the player omitted from the bench.

Exciting rookie Ben Harris is the new benchman. The Bulldogs are shooting for their ninth consecutive win, which would equal a club record set in 1994. "Along with Newcastle, the Bulldogs are the best side we've played this year," said Rabbitohs coach Craig Coleman, whose side is unchanged.
