As you will have read, the soundtrack that accompanied the 'Fellowship of the Ring' has been playing constantly in my house for the past year, and you will know that I've been excitedly anticipating the second soundtrack, to Peter Jackson's trilogy, just as much as the accompanying film! So you could have just imagined how much adrenaline was rushing through my veins when, one morning, i heard a Lord-of-the-Rings-The-Two-Towers-Soundtrack-sounding *THUD* echoing through the hallway, from the front door.
"Yey upons yeys!" I exclaimed, as i ripped into the packaging. A long deep sigh left my lips, such as one you might hear with the phrase "I am whole again."
My left eyebrow raised in quizzical intrigue as i slid the card album band off. It was The Ambassador's party all over again! "Wiz zis card album band, you are really spoiling-g'us!" It was a nice and thankful touch- the last soundtrack had the annoying tendency of never closing properly (might have had something to do with me playing it all the time, but hey, let's not read into it too much). I flicked open the leatherette 'book' case, which was a dark navy blue, a change from the last soudtrack's antique red- a quiver of guilt flashed across my lips, "Oh! How many rare Blue-hided cows were sacrificed for my listening pleasure?"
A split second later I had the CD in my player. I saw that the inside pockets still had the fake 'browning of age' and 'tattered edges' printed on them- details I enjoyed with its predecessor. I could hear the CD warming up! A flash of light drew my attention to the contents of the other pocket- the 20 page booklet that was one of the added features advertised of the Limited Edition versions. The glare of reflected light made it apparent to me that they opted for a cheaper glossy paper for the booklet, compared to the more tactile, thicker and higher quality matt paper of the previous soundtrack's. I winced.
But what ever I was thinking of was gone in an instant. Shh! The music was starting!
The first track went by, and though i was relunctant to, I had to admit that it left me uninspired. But it was only the first track- there were nineteen other tracks to go! I was still hopeful. But I was left dissappointed and unfulfilled after every track, pretty much.
I mean, I still have the enormous urge to watch 'Lord of the Rings' every time I listen to the soundtrack, but hey, that's not saying much- sniffing Gollum's sweaty arm pit would probably do the same!
