Flagstaff was where we ended up spending our first night on the road. Since this was the middle of the summer, I was actually expecting it to be much hotter than it was. Of course, the mountain air made it that much more tolerable. This being a Kenzilla road trip, there was a lot I forgot to pack in the travel bag. Good thing we managed to find a Target in Flagstaff.
Exit 1? I guess that officially means we're no longer in California. Considering we just crossed the Colorado, that's probably a good guess.
As long as we were driving this route, I tried to make it a "thing" to get these "Welcome to ____" signs.
Actually, what we were looking for was a "You are leaving California.. Why?" sign, but alas, none on this route.
At around this time, Keith started getting really bored, or started going crazy.
So he ended up getting really interested in rock formations, which became a theme through the trip. New Mexico had red rocks. Arizona had these.
More rocks, closer up.
I'm surprised at the speed of Keith's camera, considering we were driving along at a pretty good pace at this point.
And actually, these rocks are kinda cool. Maybe I'll use it as a wallpaper.
I'm not sure why... you can barely see the rocks in this one...
... and this one is just a mess.
After spending two days staring at yellow and brown, it was amazing to see green again. And trains. Anything to break the monotony.
Other living objects, such as, say, cows, immediately become a focus of attention on these trips.
Honestly, do you see what I'm talking about here? This is the perpetual image of this trip - the endless highway.
Does it even matter that we're on the 40?
Like that cellphone holder? More asphalt.
