Letter sent to prospective donors:
Thank you so much for considering supporting the Manhattan Theatre Club with a donation. As a playwright, I’m thankful for the work MTC does to develop new plays and playwrights. I understand that Full House: The Musical would probably make a profit, but there should always be a place on Broadway for challenging, original theatre.
Unfortunately, ticket revenue accounts for less than half the price of a ticket to one of our shows. Fundraising is what keeps the cost to the average theatre lover at a reasonable level.
Ten percent of our budget goes to MTC-run education programs that help foster a new generation of theatergoers. The world has more to offer than children sometimes know, and the arts can make a big difference.
There are advantages to becoming a Friend of MTC. These are laid out in the enclosed brochure. We want people to truly be involved in what we do, and attending readings, touring the Biltmore and post-show talkbacks are ways to do this.
If you have any questions, let me know.
Letter sent to prospective high-level donors:
Thank you for considering Patronship with the Manhattan Theatre Club. As a playwright, I’m thankful for the work MTC does to develop new plays and playwrights. I understand that The Sound of Music II: Maria's Revenge would probably make a profit, but there should always be a place on Broadway for challenging, original theatre. Patrons are the backbone of MTC support, truly helping us to survive and grow.
Here is Patronship in a nutshell:
· A full year of benefits – 7 MTC shows.
· Go to our plays whenever you like.
· A pair of house seats for each show.
· Need to cancel, even five minutes before curtain? No problem.
· Use of the Patron Lounge, with free wine, chocolate and use of the private restrooms.
· Your name in the Playbill.
Antonello is our Patron Liaison. He is the one you speak with to schedule dates and navigate the other advantages of Patronship. He’s a very nice young man, and works very hard to make Patrons happy.
MTC has the biggest non-profit Patron Program in the country for a reason, and I’m sure you won’t regret giving it a try.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
