Plays
Theatre is in my blood, and I've always been a playwright. Nothing is more pleasing than doing a show, and writing one is almost that good.
Absolution (2003)
The newest of my plays. It's a unique one-act play based upon something we all do: Asking for forgiveness.
Montserrat (1996, 1997, 2000)
My first play, and probably my best. It contains all of the archetypal elements of my writing. An idealized female, a sensitive young man, impossible odds, a bittersweet conclusion. This play made me a finalist in a national Young Playwrights competition.
Schadenfreude (2000)
This is a highly decent play about a man who loses everything and then regains it. This play was ahead of its time at Purchase apparently because no one got it. The stresses of Purchase caused me to write some of the worst dialogue ever. In an early draft, I actually have a character say: "Isn't it glad we're all so happy?" because no one got that she was happy. Good play. Bad school.
Long Hot Summer (2000)
A play about the suburban reaction to the Detroit riots in 1967. It's a good play, and an interesting examination of race. While it's not a simple matter at all, those who are wrong in the matter have their comeuppance.
4B (1999)
Set during the opening months of American involvement during WWII, this play chronicles several women and one man as they deal with the raging war. The women are nurses and the man helps as they organize a dance for men about to ship out. Men who aren't very happy with this man's seemingly undeserved exemption.
Superfreak (2002)
A not-very-good one act about a young man who finds that he has hit the jackpot: He's found a girl who is insatiable. Now, it may sound like science fiction, but I swear the myths must be true.
Return to Me (1997)
A boring play about a guy who copes with his girl's desire to join the Peace Corps. Stinko.
Minor plays:
Indefinable (2003)
Submitted to New Voices 2003 Competition. A ten-page play about a man who seemingly cannot fall in love.
Guy Court (2003)
Submitted to 2003 New Voices Competition. A whimsical romp about a young man who interrupts his buddy during the act of coitus. He is tried in Guy Court. A fun, interactive play.
Religious play (2000)
Quiet, pious play meant to be staged in a church. Not so unusual when you consider the theatrical nature of the Catholic Mass.
Catching Up (2003)
Semi-sequel to novella 'Ethan Prime'. Brief play of ten pages.
How to Handle a Woman (2003)
Winner of 2003 New Voices competition at Oswego. A crowd-pleasing romp. More pro-woman than some women realize.
Berman Play (2000) - only first of two acts
This is a good play I should finished based on the horrible president of Manhattanville College. An extremely feminist play, and that's a good thing.
