Book Reviews

Students fill out review forms at home and use them in class to support speech-like book reviews or one-to-one conversations, as shown here.
  • Step 1: Answer your partner's questions about the book you've reviewed. You can use your Book Review Form to help. Then ask your partner about her/his book. Take some brief notes to aid your memory.

  • Step 2: Change partners and repeat the process. This time, you can't use your Book Review Form to tell about the book. You can use it to ask questions, however.

  • Step 3: Change partners again and repeat the activity. This time, neither partner can use the Book Review Form.

Answers

What's the title of your book?

Precious Bane

What level is it?

Level five.

What genre is it?

Romance or human interest, I think.

What's the book about?

It's about a girl, Prudence Sarn, and her family and the disaster that greed brings to them. Her older brother wants to be rich and important, and he uses everyone around him to get what he wants. It's also about the love that develops between Prudence, who has a harelip, and a very kind young man who loves her for being a beautiful person (inside and out).

Do you recommend this book?

Absolutely.

Very much.

If you're interested in | history or romances, yes I do.
                  If you like |

Only if you're interested in |  historical fiction or romances.
                  Only if you like |

Not, really.

No

Why? (Why not?)

It's very interesting to read about the daily lives of people 200 years ago in England. It was also interesting to think about the effects greed can have on our relationships with others. I also really liked the heroine and was happy that she found a man who understood her and loved her.
