The Adventures of Ken!
-January 27, 2001 - My Adventure Up North- My latest fun came courtesy of my brother and his wife...Mike & Jessica. They graciously hosted me at their apartment in Bloomfield, NJ. I arrived Friday night toward midnight at the airport of Newark, NJ. We got back to the apartment and watched the most recent WWF PPV that Mike had taped. Then I had a restful sleep in their most comfy abode, on a sofa bed that slept like a dream!
Then...on Saturday, we went into New York City! WOW! I felt completely out of my element up there, but there is so much to do! We took a bus to this HUGE bus station near Times Square.

Times Square on a fun day
Then we went to WWF New York! I figured a wait outside the door, but we suprising were led immediately to a upper-level table...just a few feet away from WWF Superstars...Chris "Prove me Wrong" Benoit, and Good Will ambassador William Regal!

See...the WWF was in town that night and I had gotten Mike and I tickets. Mike and Jess treated me to lunch (along with everything else on that trip). I had a Fred Flintstone-style rack of spare ribs, with french fries, and a delightful veggie medley...it was wonderful. During lunch the APA (Farook (sp?) and Bradshaw) strolled past us. After lunch we mulled around the WWF store, then made our way onto the busy NYC streets. We saw many famous places.

ME, at the famous Radio City Music Hall
We went to FAO Schwartz toy store... the site where they filmed the toy store segment of the Tom Hanks hit movie, "Big". I saw that cool piano that you step on to play the notes. I almost broke into "Chopsticks" like Josh did in the movie, but it occured to me that I don't know how to play the piano! HaHa!

"NOOO, put that camera down!"
We got huge bags of assorted candy. ALL kinds of treats, any kind of candy you can think of. I even have an everlasting gobstopper the size of a tennis ball, that adorns my mantel. I can't fit it into my mouth!
We went to the NBC studio store and had a blast looking at paraphernalia to all the hit NBC shows, including my all-time fave, "Seinfeld". The stuff was really expensive though, so I held out, although I saw a lot of stuff I wanted.
We then had a break at T.G.I.Fridays, for drinks. Mikey had a beer, and me and Jessica had soft drinks...The bill? You don't want to know. But to give you an idea, Mike lost all the color in his face when the waitress told us what we owed! :-O
Jessica didn't care to go to WWF, due to the wild crowd, but Mike and I made our way to the famous Madison Square Garden (but first we had a treat of Krispy Kreme doughnuts...I had my old standby...apple cinnamon). Wow, what a crowd! I told Mike while we were herded in like cattle, crushed like sardines, "I'm in hellllllll".
We got to the show, and had the typical standard GREAT time you have at WWF events! All the main stars were there, and it was cool to spend some time with Mikey.

Kane, The Big Red Machine got the crowd going
After the show we took a bus back to the apartment and we were quite the comical pair, as we kept taking turns sleeping and waking each other up! :-D I was soooooo tired! I think I sleepwalked my way to the comfy sofa bed!
The next day we went to church, which was very nice, and had lunch at a grill. I was ready for a cheeseburger! Then we watched Gladiator, ate our candy, and followed the night up with a Smashing Super Bowl party, followed by episode #1 of Survivor. I had a great time, the best time I've had for a Super Bowl in years.
The next day, I had to fly back home to NC, but I will always carry fond memories of my "Adventure up North!" Thanks Mike and Jessica! I look forward to my next visit!
