In Loving Memoriam...

Chief William E. Bennett
7/26/52 - 9/4/01

The Kennedy Volunteer Fire Department is saddened to announce the untimely death of Fire Chief William Bennett. Chief Bennett died in the line of duty while responding to an emergency call on September 4, 2001, as the result of a motor vehicle accident.

Bill has served as an active member of the Kennedy Fire Department for the last 15 years. During that time he served as an Assistant Chief for 10 years, a Fire Commissioner for 1 year, and as Fire chief for the last 2 years. He was active in every aspect of the fire service, not only as a department officer, but also as a mentor, a friend, and a brother to all who knew him. He was also a devoted husband and father.

Chief Bennett will be Sadly missed by not only the Fire department members, but by all those in the community whose lives he touched. He truly was a hero to us all.

Visiting hours will be from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm Thursday September 6, 2001 at the Falconer Funeral Home. The Fire Department members will hold a memorial service at 6:45pm Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 1pm on Friday September 7th. Burial will be in Kennedy. He's gonna be buried behind Chief George, so, as Kathy says, "Bill can kick him in the ASS!"

2 memorial funds have been set up. The William Bennett Memorial Fund C/O HSBC Bank 1 E Main St. Falconer, NY 14733. This fund will help with expenses for his twin sons. Also, The William Bennett Fire Prevention Fund C/O Kennedy Fire Dept PO Box 62 Kennedy, NY 14747. This will help with the costs of the Fire Prevention Program that Bill setup seven years ago.
