| Ken�was born� in Scotland�in November 1959. His family moved� to the USA shortly thereafter and he was educated �in� his new homeland. Ken was a private student of Gerard Schwarz, internationally acclaimed conductor and past Principal Trumpet of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Since earning his Master-of-Arts Degree; Ken has studied at Villanova, Temple, West Chester and the University of Maryland, plus St. Peter's, Montclair State and Kean Colleges. Ken has presented workshops on performance assessment, criteria reference systems and rubric design in many states. He received a letter of commendation from the Governor of New Jersey, has multiple listings in Who's Who Among America's Teachers, and been granted Nationally Registered Music Educator honor status by MENC (the Music Educators National Conference). Ken was a guest instructor for the Conquest-Alliance drum corps of Yorkshire, England in 1990. For several years he has been involved music product development. In 1998 and 1999, his photo was published nationally in the "Student-Tested, Teacher-Approved" ad campaign for TKL instrument cases. While a high school band director, his students won numerous awards performing repertoire such as Bernstein's Overture to Candide, David Holsinger's To Tame the Perilous Skies, and Claude Smith's Eternal Father Strong To Save. In 1999 his students performed in Yankee Stadium before the final World Series game of the century. Two days later, they played in front of 3.6 million spectators in the Yankee's Tickertape Parade! Ken has been elected to serve on numerous Professional Development Committees. In 1994 he was recruited to teach the All-Star Drum and Bugle Corps, an ensemble of over 400 members which was featured on NBC's Today Show, and Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. For ten years he was the Music Chairperson for the National Judges Association and Tournament of Bands, while revising Repertoire Lists for Curriculum Development in hundreds of school districts. Ken also served as Drum Corps Associates Music Chairperson for seven years. Three times he has critiqued student ensembles from the United States Air Force, Naval and Coast Guard Academies. For several years he encouraged thousands of students while evaluating performances across North America. Ken has conducted at Congressional Receptions plus other events in several states and Canada. His associations include some of the world's finest arrangers, performers and public speakers. For three decades Ken has been affiliated with numerous drum corps, including the New York Skyliners, Patriots and the Hawthorne Caballeros. He has been recorded�for commercials and�albums�and performed�as�a trumpet�player, pianist and�vocalist. |
