Have you been driven by a Carp lately?

As we begin our story I need to make a clarification. Today I will be referring to and using some very familiar Ford terms. Please note that it is not this author’s intent to slander or downgrade anything having to do with Ford or their wonderful products, terms or slogans. Under the Federal Trademark Act of 1995, a person can be held to have infringed upon a trademark “for tarnishing it” by using it in a negative context. As you will soon see, that is certainly not my intent. In fact, I am convinced that Henry himself would have enjoyed an Expedition aboard the ALVA D. The Golden Ghosts of Dog River pull like a raging Taurus and there is nothing that can compare with pursuing these beauties on a cool, crisp morning along the beautiful waters of Dog River.

My very special guest today was Mr. Lanier Thomas. Lanier is a co-worker and new friend of mine at the Georgia Dealers Auto Auction. Before working there, he spent most of his life at a metro Atlanta Ford dealership that is unfortunately, no longer in business. Lanier has been around Fords all of his life. He was a frisky Mustang long before many of our readers were any bigger than a Pinto bean. Although Mr. Thomas has seen and done a lot of things across our Galaxie, this was his first experience fishing for Carp. How did this rookie Explorer do? Was this a memorable Excursion? Was he able to Focus or did he get distracted? These fish are built Carp Tough. Would they all Escape? Did Lanier ever get past the Mystique of his first trip? Did he finally settle down to fish or was he like a bucking Bronco? Was my new friend ever really in the race? Was he crowned the Gran Marquis? I thought you’d never ask………….

Our Story

We had an early start. By 7:50 am we were experiencing a smooth quiet ride up Dog River on the luxurious ALVA D. Once anchored, we baited up and got our lines out. My guest was really enjoying himself. He was basking in the peace and solitude but little did he know that the Tempo was about to change! In minutes Lanier had his first “pull down” and the race was on! After a few laps around the boat he landed a nice 2 lb, 5 oz Carp. Wanting to get on the scoreboard and really into the competition he soon followed up with his catch of the day! A 4 lb, 10 oz beauty that placed him solidly in 4th place in the DRCFA standings! All in all, we caught 5 Carp today.

What about the Ol’Captain? How did I do? Not to outdone by a newcomer I came through with a 10 lb, 5 oz Snapping Turtle! This baby was loaded with options as well as a new car aroma all it’s own! It was a four wheel drive hardtop that would make any dealer proud. Built Ford tough and ready to take on the opposition! I am attaching two pictures of my guest and one of the Ol’ Captain respectfully holding my catch of the day!

Today was such a special day. Lanier…thanks so much for going Carpin’ with me!

Life Lesson

As many of you know, I was privileged to attend Berry College in Rome, Georgia. I first entered Martha Berry’s “Gate of Opportunity” in the spring of 1970. I began my studies later that same year. I could have worked in the paper mill back home but God had a better idea for my life. I believe it was His will and provision that first brought me to that beautiful campus. There were also other contributing factors. Martha Berry had a vision to help kids who were poor but hungry for an education. She also had help in the financing of her dream. One of the main benefactors in the early Berry days was none other than Henry Ford, Sr. Where in lies the life lesson? I believe that we all can make a difference. Some people can make a difference with their unselfish generosity. Some can change lives with their vision to help others. All of us can touch lives and be an encouragement in our own unique way with the help of Almighty God. Have you made a difference lately?

Until Next Time. Keep on Carpin'
