Success!

The 1st annual Dog River Carp Fishing Association end of the year banquet was a huge success! The food, the fellowship, the entertainment and the prizes were all right on the mark. Almost 40 people showed up and no one went home disappointed!

As most of you know, I love to eat. At 6”7” and almost 300 lbs I have developed the covered dish dinner into an Art form. My favorite last night was Betty Spark’s “Spaghetti Pie” which tasted kind of like a baked macaroni and cheese dish with sauce. My personal schedule will remain open until I get an invitation to partake of that fine dish again!

The fellowship was great. Many were CLBC folks but we were joined by several new friends as well. That is what the DRCFA is all about! Thanks to all of you for making everyone feel at home.

The highlight of the evening was Joe and Melissa Weider’s Power Point Presentation. It was wonderful! It included pictures we had taken throughout the year. The pictures were backed up with music from “Jaws”, “Gilligan’s Island” as well as other appropriate tidbits. It was a typical 1st class Weider Production.

The prizes were super! Several door prizes were won by folks such as Linda “I’ll be there next year” Bentley, and David “Keep it Reel” McLendon. It did my old heart good to see Chuck “Snap-Daddy” Wolf finally get himself a boat! The top 5 awards were then handed out and we closed with some plans for next year.

Next year we will have several small tournaments rather than one year long tourney. Our drive is to get more people involved in a relaxing way to spend a morning enjoying God’s creation. There is no reason we can’t have 4-6 boats show up for a morning of “Carpetition” from time to time. We hope to host 4-6 Saturday morning tournaments throughout the year from March-November. We will still have our revolving Carp King trophy for the biggest Carp caught on Dog River in 2004. If you think this year’s trophy was tacky just wait until 2004! By the way, Captain Vic has agreed to take care of our Carp King Trophy again next year!

We need to thank Vic once again for his generosity. The best way to thank him would be to book a fishing trip with him in Jacksonville, Fla. You can do that by contacting him at: www.Vic2Fish.com

We are also indebted to Bert Blood of P&N Manufacturing, Inc for donating our two second place trophies as well as doing the plaque for the “King” trophy. Bert’s business is located at 9130-b Highway 5 Douglasville, Ga. If you have trophy or engraving needs for your business please contact Bert. We have sent him a card but you can thank him personally at : [email protected]

If you or someone you know would like to sponsor a tournament next year please let know. All it requires is donating a 1st,2nd, and 3rd place trophy or prizes for a Saturday tournament. I will do the rest.

I can’t tell you how much fun I’ve had this year. The ALVA D has been on the Dog about 45 times since March. We boated and released over 280 Golden Ghosts. We have taken over 30 different individuals (in some cases VERY different) Carpin’ and have had a blast! It has been a joy to take the pictures and write the tales. But…..(change of direction) all good things must come to an end. It is cold out. The Ol’ Captain is going to kick back by the fire or maybe reclaim the yard now that it is too cold (in my opinion) to go Carpin’. I may write a tidbit from time to time to stay in touch but for the most part, we are through until spring.

My pictures from last night didn’t turn out so good. If you have some please forward them to me and I’ll get them out.

I want to thank you again for your support and love for me. As we approach Christmas let me remind you that “wise men still seek Him”. May the God of creation bless each and every one of you during this wonderful Christmas season.

Keep on Carpin'
