Four Weeks

We have scheduled our 1st annual DRCFA post season extravaganza four weeks from tonight. Out with the Golden Globe awards, in with the Golden Ghost Awards! Since March 1st, 31 different guests have boarded the beautiful ALVA D on 44 adventures. Since that early spring day we have boated and released 268 Carp! We have taken pictures and written our tall tales. Our e-mail list has grown to include more than 100 names in at least 7 states.

Many of you have been unable to participate but you have vicariously Carped with us from week to week. Some of you have been so kind to occasionally e-mail a word of encouragement to the Ol’ Captain. Your words, in part, have been my inspiration.

It is time now to plan for our gathering. I have reserved the Fellowship Hall at CLBC for that evening. I planned it for the 29th so that we could all bring our Thanksgiving left-overs and have a covered dish type meal. We will eat and recognize some special guests along with our top 5 Carpists. In order for this to work, I need your cooperation! I have asked Captain Vic to drive from Jacksonville, Florida. It would not be appropriate to ask Vic if we are not going to have a good turn out. I think it would be a lot of fun to relive our stories and put names and faces together. If you have been 10 times or if you have not even met me or seen the ALVA D you are equally welcome to attend. I have some ideas for next season that I want to share and others may have suggestions as well.

I want to thank Ken Higginbotham in advance for all he has done to make our website and this year so much fun. We wouldn’t have a site if it weren’t for Ken.

In order for us to have our get together I need you to RSVP by November 15th via e-mail or in person.

If Ken and I are the only ones interested we will go to the Waffle House and call it a year. I certainly don’t think that will be the case! Let me know ASAP so we can have a great night!

The Magnificent Seven

It is Saturday. Did anyone fish today? I thought you’d never ask……

I fished alone this morning and boated 7 Golden Ghosts. There were several highlights including the weather, the scenery, the fish, and the Kentucky Fried Chicken. The topper was the chilled can of Del Monte peaches. I love canned sweet peaches!(in heavy syrup only) I am including some great shots of the Dog as well as a picture of a Carp who made the mistake of taking some corn that didn’t belong to him. So…….

I Ain’t Afraid !

The Bill Murray movie boldly stated a boast,
when they proclaimed that, “I ain’t afraid of no ghost!”

Well, it’s Halloween night and all soon will shiver
as we consider the things that this night may deliver.

Is it Charlie’s Great Pumpkin that you think of tonight?
or is the friendly ghost, Casper, delivering your fright?

Just whoooooo do you choose as your top apparition ?
Are you chicken to share it, to just give it a mention?

Was it Boris Karloff that first gave you the chills?
Did the Exorcist movie just make you plum ill?

What about Freddie and those Halloween flicks?
Those things scare guys just as quickly as chicks!

So who do you vote for? Who scares you the most?
This may come as a shock when I ask for a toast,
To those wonderful, rod bending, Dog River Ghosts.

It’s plum scary what they can do to your pole.
Those “pull downs” are frightening or so I’ve been told.

They occasionally can make a rod disappear,
By pulling it overboard while you’re sitting so near.

One minute you see it, and then it is gone,
That’s why we can’t let those Gold Ghosts alone!

So while you sit there tonight and you shake and you shiver,
I’ll be pondering the Golden Ghosts of Dog River.

Happy Halloween!
