Whatever happened to Randolph Scott?
Many of us grew up when times were simple. We were sheltered from the violence
and corruption of the world. If we had TV it was a black and white that we gathered around
on Saturday morning?s to watch Roy Rogers, Gene Autry or the Cisco Kid and Pancho. The
good guys won. There was no blood. Good always overcame evil.
Today at the push of a button (where I come from we MASH buttons) we can expose
ourselves to things that are not just bad but are ungodly and corrupt. Many of the things
that our children are exposed to we didn?t see (if we ever did) until we joined the
service or went off to college. We were too busy riding bikes, fishing, playing ball and
just being kids to concern ourselves with this element. How many kids today for instance,
have a hero such as the "Cheyenne Kid" played by that bullwhip totin' cowboy,
Lash LaRue?
One of the goals of this writer is to re create that simple time once again. It
is amazing to me how you have responded to our reports. We now have readers in
Kansas, Texas, New York, Ohio, Missouri, Kentucky, Florida, and Georgia (are there
others?). Is it about Carp? Not hardly. Its about a warm Saturday morning floating
along with Huck, Tom and Jim. It's about the anticipation of that next adventure around
the rivers bend.
Today's Journey
As you might have guessed by now, one of my joys is taking people fishin.
Today, fellow CLBC deacon and friend, Kent "Karp Katcher" Adams, made his ALVA D
debut. Kent has read the reports. He has reviewed the statistics. He has had time to get
prepared mentally. All those things are certainly important but some of us are practice
players and some rise to the top only on game day. When it is crunch time the strongest
survive. Charlie Goff certainly did not become Carp King by chance. He has prepared. In
his 70+ years he has faced more than one refiners fire. Kingship doesnt just
happen. Leadership emerges. Like the Falcon from the ashes, the cream always comes to the
top. Last week, eleven year old Brent Wolf rose to the occasion and tied for second place
but (change of direction) today was Kents day. How did Kent react to
such pressure? I thought youd never ask
..
Practice was over. It was game day. Time to shine. We had prepared and we were
loaded with corn, hominy, worms and chicken liver. We were in the same spot as last week.
We were fishing the same area where 85 Carp had been boated in the month of April. We
fished our usual schedule. 8:00 am until 1:00 pm. The results? We boated only one Carp and
one runt of a Catfish!
What could have happened in only a week? Was it the high muddy water? Were the
Solunar tables askew? The surface was smooth but there were rumors of dangerous
undercurrents. The DRCFA is currently investigating a rumor as to what happened to the
All-American Carp today! It seems that several of these powerful fish may have decided to
sell their Golden Scales on E bay and were unavailable for comment. Another group was
described as simply being Nautically Ineligible. Will we ever know the full
story?
What do we do now? Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman said that if you
mess up doing the Tango you simply keep on dancing. So even if the Carp were
on strike today all I know to do is simply Keep on Carpin!
Until next time, tight lines to all and to all a good fight! By
the way, I am attaching a photo of my good friend and partner, Kent Adams.

Life Lessson
We spoke earlier of simple times. What about you? What things do you look at or
forward on your computer? Do you send out the filth and trash that so many think is funny?
The Bible says as a man thinketh in his heart so is he. A basic computer truth
is Garbage in
.Garbage out What you send out is a reflection of what is
inside. It shows your true character. Check out your own heart. Are you a part of the
solution or part of the problem?
