Bass
Section
Before you jump to conclusions, let me explain todays
title. I have not converted to fishing for Bass. I am, have always been, and will probably
always be, a bottom bumper.
Most of you know that Dog River is currently out of control.
Because of the current high muddy water the Alva D has resorted to plan B this week.
Rather than pursue the Golden Ghosts of Dog River we have resorted to fishing for catfish
at Sweetwater Park Lake.
Our story today centers around the Bass (pronounced base)
section of County Line Baptist churchs adult choir.
Daddy sang Bass
For the last two days I have fished with fellow choir members
Greg Uncle Ben Nunnelly and his sidekick and my part-time son, Charles
Lefty Turner. The three of us along with several other fine gentlemen make up
the bass section of our church choir. Yesterday Greg and I caught over a dozen channel
cats. Greg is the fella who brought Rice Chummin to Douglas County. Does it work?
All I know is that since Monday over 70 cats have boarded the ALVA D.
Charles Turner was my guest today. We boated a
dozen or so again today. You can tell these Turner boys because they have a rod in one
hand and a cell phone in the other. I guess its in their blood.
I am attaching pics of Greg and
Charles. Greg has the rice chum. Charles has the phone. The fish are two different sets.
One was caught today. The other set was boated yesterday.
Hopefully we can get back to Carpin next week!
Life Lesson
The bass section by itself can do very little. We need the
sopranos, altos and even the tenors if we want to make music. If everyone does his/her
part correctly, music is produced. If not, we are simply making noise.
The same principle applies to our families, church families
and other groups. We need each other. In 1623 John Donne wrote:
No man is an island, entire of itself;
Every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
How about you? Is your life full of music or is it full of
noise? Perhaps you need to become part of the main. Want to know more? See you at church
tomorrow.
Until next time,
Keep the slack out!
