Pipe Dreams

We all have our dreams and goals. As little boys, we dreamed of becoming firemen or policemen. Some of us dreamed of becoming a sport's superstar. My guest today had a dream about a month ago when he made his ALVA D debut. Tom “Puff Daddy” Kilgore wanted to get on the DRCFA scoreboard. It just wasn’t in the cards for him on that muddy high water day in June. Being the trooper that he is, he had to have another go at it. Perhaps today would be different. Did he get on the board? What were the highlights? I thought you’d never ask……..

Almost

Tom and his beautiful wife Carol, have just returned from a 3000 plus mile tour that included several of our historic New England states. They dined on Maine lobster. They visited the Liberty Bell. They spent time in Pennsylvania with the Amish. They visited Gettysburg. I somehow think that during this whole two week trip that poor “Puff” had a void in his life. In his heart he was feeling like Mick Jagger when he sang..”I can’t get no satisfaction!” Tom could not rest until he had another chance at the Carp on Dog River.

Almost means not quite, just about or very nearly. Today, Tom Kilgore almost got on the scoreboard. We anchored early and quickly caught one small Carp each. Shortly thereafter Tom caught a Channel Cat. We were in the action! But (change of direction) things began to change. Over the course of the next several hours we lost at least ten fish including a big one right near the boat. I know you are saying, “Sure you did” but folks that one Tom lost weighed at least 4 lbs! I dare say by Sunday it might go 5 or 6! What was the bottom line? We each caught 2 Carp and Tom caught the Channel Cat. I am attaching pictures of Tom and his pipe and Tom and his 2 lb, 2 oz Carp. Keep dreaming Tom. Maybe next time.

Even though we only caught a few it was one of the most enjoyable trips this season. I can’t wait to have Tom back on board!
