The Brown Dogs Tale
or
1,2,3 on the ALVA D
Many of you have experienced the delight of a day on Dog
River aboard the daring and dashing ALVA D. Stories have been written and retold around
campfires throughout the South about the adventures of the Ol Captain and his guest
of the day. Today things were different. I had GUESTS on board! After ciphering the girth,
tare and density of some of my other fishing buddies, I thought our load would be
comparatively low today even with three in the boat. Although the ALVA D is only 46 inches
wide at its best and 14 feet long from heel to crown, I thought wed be OK. Most of
the creek where we chase the Golden Ghosts is 5ft deep or less. I figure at 67
the worst thing that could happen to this author would be a case of wet armpits. My guests
of honor today were the ever light and less filling duo of David and Craig Brown. Never
having fished with David or his son I really didnt know what to expect. How did it
go? Did anyone fall into the creek? Did the ALVA D capsize? Did anyone get on the
scoreboard? Did we catch any fish? I thought youd never ask............
Downtown Brown makes King
Goff Frown!
My goal today was simple. I just wanted to put these guys on
some fish and sit back and watch. Even in this day and time there is still something
mystical and magical that happens between a man and his son when the fish are biting.
Little did I know that today would go down in DRCFA history! Craig Downtown
Brown pulled the upset of the year by dethroning Charlie Goff!! Thats right, folks.
We have a new Carp King! At 8:55 AM young Craig opened up with a nice 3 lb Channel
Catfish. An hour later history was made!! Craig soundly defeated the previous record with
a whopping 6 lb, 5 oz Beauty! I am proud to say that age is not a factor with the DRCFA.
Charlie has ruled and reigned with dignity and grace for these three months. He was
working in his cornfield when he received the news. To show this mans character his
only reply was shucks! (corny, huh?). I am including a picture of King Charlie
graciously passing the trophy to his 13 year old successor. I only hope that young Craig
will serve with the majesty and style that has been the hallmark of the DRCFA for these
three months. Time will tell. As always, the proof is in the pudding.
Eight total fish were boated today. Craig caught four, David
three and the Ol Captain picked up number eight. I am attaching a picture of King
Brown with his catch. I am adding a picture of Craig and his proud (but envious) dad,
David Brown. Let me encourage you to congratulate Craig by e-mailing him at
[email protected] . Congratulations from you will be remembered by him for years to
come.
David and Craig....I hope we made a memory today that you
will not soon forget. It was my joy and pleasure just to be a part of it.
