The
LaFavor Chronicles

I never knew it would get this serious. It was just an innocent hobby. I didn’t know it could become an overpowering addiction. What started out as simple summer fun has grown into a passion. Desire like this can ruin a man if he isn’t careful. My hands get sweaty. I shake at times with the tremors. I toss and turn and dream of Green Giants. I hear screaming drags in the night. I hallucinate and have flashbacks of experiences from over four months ago. I haven’t felt this way since the last time I tried to quit Coca-Colas. I see rods bending and being twisted and bent beyond recognition. I hear grown men screaming at the tops of their lungs...."I got one!!!!!!!!" I see tears in their eyes from the strain in their hands, arms and backs as they struggled with these beasts. I know all this and yet I want more!! Can I not be satisfied with last year’s accomplishments? Did the ALVA D not gain national acclaim and recognition? Did we not graciously get a web site (www.douglascountyga.com) and have the opportunity for worldwide exposure? Is that not enough? IT AIN"T EVEN CLOSE TO ENOUGH!

Plans are already in the works to make the 2003 ALVA D Carp/Cat Season one that will be talked about for years to come!

We will begin this years season with a kick-off dinner at Buckner’s Restaurant on I-75. Hopefully "Butterbean" Wynn will be there to sign autographs. Not only is he the recipient of last years COY( Carp of the Year) Award but the boy can put away some chicken! Watching the Bean eat at Buckner’s is Poetry in motion.

I have found another resource to enhance this years interest. I have located a source for Bumper Stickers that read " I’d Rather be Carp Fishing." These stickers are sold by a new friend named Bill in St Louis, Mo. Please go to ebay.com and check with Rosewood Online or [email protected].

It is never too early to get ready for Carp/Cat season. In fact, just yesterday Ken Higginbotham and I found ourselves aboard the ALVA D on Sweetwater Lake. Ken had the shakes so bad that he had to go fishing. But even after we got there he was shaking. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the 45 degree weather and the 25-30mph wind.He was so upset he claimed he saw a one legged Coot. I’m telling you folks, this Carp thang is an epidemic! It will mess with your mind!

If you fished aboard the ALVA D last year or hope for an invitation this year please RSVP our Buckners trip ASAP. I think we will shoot for mid-March. After dinner we will set some goals for the new year, tell some lies about the old year and dream of the new season to come.

I am serious about Buckners. If you are interested in going one Fri night in March just let me know. Those of you from out of state that read this post should note that the trip would be worth your while. They serve the best fried chicken and peach cobbler in the world.

Well, that’s it for now. Keep going to bed and getting up. Spring will be here before you know it!

Take care and God Bless!
