If you build it,
they will come. In Kevin Costners movie
Field of Dreams he was told that if you build it they will come. This time last year, Carp
fishing on Dog River didnt exist. There was no ALVA D. The wonderful entertaining,
inspiring, and informative fishing reports that you have come to love and live for had not
even been written. The DRCFA was just four consonants and a vowel. What a difference a
year can make!!
What have we accomplished? How far have we come? Where do we
go from here? Many of you who read this had not caught a fish in years. Some of you had
obviously NEVER caught a fish until last year. What started out as "just a
thing" has leaped like a Tarpon in the Gulf! The stories have spread like wildfire
across our great nation. Inquiries have come from as far away as Missouri, Ohio, Kansas,
and Kentucky! Dates are being booked this summer to accommodate these fine men from all
across our country. (This is all true by the way).
We are only a month away from our kick off meeting of the
DRCFA (Dog River Carp Fishing Association) and I am already getting feedback about The
Revolving Carp King Award! Everyone wants to get in on the act! But who can blame them?
Some have said, " What if we catch a big Carp on our own boat?" "What if we
rent a boat and YOU are not there?" Gentlemen please control yourself! I told you
before that "this Carp thang is contagious!" After careful consideration it has
been decided that we should amend our rules to include these new upstart Captain wanna
bees. From this day forth, any member in good standing who catches and weighs his Carp and
releases him can be eligible for the Carp King Award. Our sole purpose is to add to the
enjoyment and pursuit of this well deserving creature.
I have identified one of the employees at Pier 1 Imports as
being a parent of one of the kids at my school. She has enthusiastically agreed to
purchase our Carp King Trophy using her employee 20% discount (God is so good!). Im
thinking that we can buy it and get Carp King 2003 placed on it at a Trophy shop for less
than $35. With that figure in mind, if 10 of you would chip in $3-$4 bucks the trophy
would be covered. Ill be accepting $$ anytime you see me. If youd like to mail
your donation it can be sent to:

Every one of us is a fisherman of some kind. You may be
fishing for money. Perhaps you are seeking fame and fortune. You might be casting for
things such as peace, happiness and joy. If that is it, I have a tip of the day for you.
It was my privilege today to attend the funeral service for Mrs. Myrtis Dean. For almost
90 years she pursued God and His Holiness. She was a fisher of people. It was reflected in
the lives and faces of those at the funeral today as well as many who could not attend. In
Ps 139:16 David said that God knew the number of his days on the earth before he was even
born. We all have a certain number. What are we doing with our days? Are we a part of the
problem or part of the solution? Jesus said in John 10:10 that he came to give life and to
give it more abundantly. What will people say about how youve spent YOUR days? May
we live an abundant life to His glory!
Lets be more than just a Carp fisherman.
Until next time, tight lines to all!
Captain Horace

them."
