The
LaFavor Chronicles

Today there is a hint of spring in the air. On this second day of February with the temperatures warming into the upper 60’s a man’s heart can easily wander. He can find himself dreaming about love. The warm sun can send his mind reeling to a plethora of ideas, inspirations and subjects of that love.

Believe it or not our topic for today will be the love of Carp fishing. As spring approaches many plans are being made to make this year the best ever for the newly named DRCFA (Dog River Carp Fishing Association). As was pointed out in a recent sermon, a group needs to have leadership as well as followship. With that thought in mind I felt we needed a name if we are going to be of the same mind and share the same vision during this upcoming season.

I mentioned in an earlier post that we are having our DRCFA kickoff banquet this year at Buckner’s restaurant. We are still in the process of getting our guest list together. Several have dropped out because of silly conflicts such as work, but others have graciously stepped up to be a part of this inaugural affair.

OUR CURRENT GUEST LIST INCLUDES:

Charlie/Doris Goff
Tom/Carol Kilgore
Lon/Deborah Wynn
Horace/Ramona LaFavor
Steve/Abbie Dinning
Dennis/Vicki Brown
Dale/Martha Kidd
Ken/Terri Higginbotham
Charles/Kim Turner
Greg/Paula Nunnelly
Gene/Betty Sparks
Phil/Nina Partridge

You may notice a newcomer to the group...Mr. Steve Dinning. Steve is a local plumber (highly recommended by the way) and member in good standing at County Line Baptist. We tried to book Steve aboard the ALVA D last year but always seemed to have a scheduling conflict. We are hoping that he will get his priorities right and not work so much this season. Time will tell. The proof is always in the pudding.

A new topic of interest is this years Carp King Revolving Trophy. I have searched high and low to find a trophy worthy to be used by the DRCFA. I have located such a piece at a local Pier 1 store. It is a replica of a Koi, which is a member of the Carp family. With a little tweek here and there it will make a great trophy and be a wonderful addition to anyone’s family room:)

The rules are as follows: Anyone fishing aboard the ALVA D will be eligible for the trophy except the Captain. Last year I went 50 or so times and many of you went only 2-3 or less. To be eligible, the fish must be caught aboard the ALVA D and officially weighed in by the Captain. This will eliminate any uncontrollable variables (like cheating). The biggest Carp caught will receive the trophy to proudly display in their home or workplace until someone else dethrones you as Carp King. At that point the trophy will be returned to me and be presented to the new reigning King. You keep it as long as you are King. Thanksgiving day will be the cut off day. If you have it in your possession on Thanksgiving you will be crowned Carp King 2003 and may keep the trophy or sell it at Bill’s Flea Market if you can (Carp King’s discretion).

The trophy will cost $30 plus tax. Donations will be excepted up to and including the night of our tip-off banquet. I know you are all excited and can’t wait ‘til spring. Hang in there. Keep your lines tight and that drag set just right! Carp Season is just around the corner!!!!!!

I will be booking trips this year on a first come first served basis. I will email dates in advance and the first person to contact me for that date will have it. There has also been some talk about women aboard the ALVA D. There are only two women even allowed on this luxury craft. One wouldn’t be caught dead on it and the other one is my precious daughter, Lauren. Sorry ladies but a man just doesn’t need to go down the river with another fella’s wife.

Speaking of love, on a much more serious note did you know that God loved you and me so much that He gave His only son to die for our sins? John 3:16 tells us of this love. As Valentines day approaches it is important that we also express our love to our wives. That is important but we are to love God first because He first loved us!

Get those contributions in ASAP. Any $ collected above the $30 will go toward the annual boat pass at Dog River which is $25. Daily fishing will cost you $5 for the trip. I will be covered by my season pass which is $50. If you are 62 or older ( you know who you are) you can fish for $2.50

See you soon aboard the ALVA D!

Horace
