Got Carp?

Man has always pursued awards and accolades. Prehistoric man simply clubbed his trophy and brought her home. The ancient Greeks wrestled, ran, and repeatedly competed in other events to receive laurels and wreaths. In modern times we have gone from wreaths of gold to rings of gold. If you are a hockey fan, the Stanley Cup is the ultimate. Soccer fans often dream of their country one day bringing home the World Cup. Ted and the boys sail the ocean blue in hot pursuit of the America’s Cup. Tiger and his friends long for the day when they might place the Ryder Cup on their mantle for all to admire. Tennis buffs work on their backhand for years hoping someday to bring the Davis Cup home.

We all need to be recognized. Every dog deserves his day in the sun. For the first time in Dog River history the recently named Dog River Carp Fishing Association will have it’s day. Forget the World Series. Forget the stinkin’ Dirty Birds. It’s time to give credit where credit is due. A real sport for real men has reared it’s head in Douglas County. The DRCFA will have a trophy unlike any other known to man. Instead of saying, “just do it”, Tiger Woods will soon say.. “I wish I’d done it!” The first annual Revolving Carp Trophy will be unveiled on March 7, 2003. Who will be the Carp King this year? How much will the biggest fish weigh? Remember that the trophy is yours until someone catches a bigger Carp than you. Carp must be caught in Dog River Reservoir and weighed on a standardized scale .If the Trophy is in your possession on Thanksgiving morning the trophy as well as a new rod and reel will be yours! You will be crowned Carp King of 2003 and be recognized at our end of season banquet.

Pictures have been made of our trophy. I will be sending them out soon. When Pavlov’s dog heard the bell he began salivating. When you see the Carp King Trophy please refrain from drooling on your keyboard. Self control is one of the Hallmark’s of the DRCFA. The cat who’s tail got cut off by a train said, “It won’t be long now!” Only two more weeks until our kick off banquet at Buckner’s. Try to hang in there. “ This Carp thang is contagious!”

Until next time, keep those lines tight and the drag set just right!
