LaFavor Chronicles

Good afternoon.

Life is full of lessons. Fame, for instance, is such a fleeting thing. One minute you have the whole world in the palm of your hand and the next minute, you are a nobody. Just like an old discarded newspaper..... outdated. A has been. Old news.

Proverbs speaks of this in the 18th verse of the 16th chapter. This wonderful book of wisdom says that "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling ( or a fall)."

Just a week ago I was set. Carp King of Dog River for 2002. Today I am nothing but a memory. A week ago I found myself shaking hands, signing autographs and kissing babies. Today, even the children turn their heads away . How could things change so quickly? How can a man be at the pinnacle of his life one week and be wallowing in the mire of defeat the next? I can answer that question in three simple words...Pride,Butterbean,and corn.

Today I made the fatal mistake of taking Lon "Butterbean" Wynn fishing with me aboard THE ALVA D. Little did I know when we left the boatramp that my life was soon to make a drastic change. Was I confident? Was I sure of myself? Perhaps a bit cocky even? You bet I was! On this cool, crisp,November day I was going to give Bean a fishing lesson that he'd not soon forget.

The results of such an attitude:

The once famous Captain of the beloved ALVA D was skunked! That's right. Humiliated in my on boat! Only one fish was caught today. An 8LB, 5 Oz, record setting, Carp of The Year Deserving,Beauty caught by the Bean. Being the class act that he is he was almost in tears when the digital scales revealed that he had dethroned the Captain. What honor! What Valor! A new Carp Monarch has been crowned !!!!

Long Live The King!!!
