LaFavor Chronicles

General David SchwartzCarp

We have all lived through uprisings and times of political unrest. The Bible speaks of “wars and rumors of wars.” There was Korea, Vietnam, The Persian Gulf War, and lately, the war with Iraq just to name a few. Conflict just seems to be a part of our world. Today was no exception. This was no police action or routine military invasion. My special guest didn’t show up on Dog River just to play Army. This was certainly no Pearl Harbor invasion, but today David “General SchwartzCarp” Schwartz openly declared war on the powerful, plentiful, yet totally unsuspecting Golden Ghosts of Dog River! Were the poor creatures prepared for such an attack? Are you kidding me? They didn’t even know what hit ‘em!

David Schwartz is a unique individual. He is a computer whiz and has taught me a few tricks of the trade not only to improve our stories but to enhance my computer skills. He has taught me things like “right click” and “try to type with at least three fingers”. I tell you, the man is a genius! David is a great teacher. He knows his hyperlinks and fire walls like the Ol’ Captain knows his sand bars and drop-offs. David is also a member in good standing at County Line Baptist. He and Bill “I’d like to go sometime” Jeffrey team up to run our sound booth at church. Regardless of his circumstances, David seems to always be pleasant and happy. I have been known to be a bit silly at times myself, so I was a little concerned when “General SchwartzCarp” booked this trip. Could the ALVA D handle the two of us? I love a good joke and I love to have fun. I have spent quite a few minutes, hours, and days of my 50 years laughing or trying to bring humor to others. However, I can assure you, today was almost more than even I could bear! At first I was concerned about the General’s past fishing experience. I wasn’t sure if he knew a Pixel from a Perch or a Bass from a Browser. As we have stated before, the proof is always in the pudding. Was he strictly Army or did he have his sea legs? Could he stay on board the ALVA D in the rough and demanding waters of the mighty Dog? Did we fall out of the boat from laughter? Did we even get a line in the water? Did we ever get to fish? If so, what were the results? I thought you’d never ask……

Our Story

We are in the hottest part of the summer and lately very little has been biting. Until today my guest had never caught a Carp. In fact, he had never even caught a fish! Against these insurmountable odds, the General cleared that hurdle with skill and amazing grace! On this hot, dog day afternoon David caught a 2 lb, 3 oz Channel Cat and landed a beautiful 1 lb, 10 oz Golden Ghost!

Brains are such an asset when Carp fishing. The General had never cast a rod and reel in his life. He simply applied his knowledge of Physics and was soon casting like a pro! He figured in the degrees of the arc and the trajectory. He allowed for the velocity of the wind. He was soon putting his bait right on the money! Don’t let this guy fool you folks. He may bump that Settle kid for this year’s Rookie of the Year Award. Only the Shadow knows for sure.

Today was a joy to me. I was wound up and David was such a good listener. We had a great time and I hope to see General SchwartzCarp again real soon!

If you don’t think this man is serious about Carpin’ just look at the attached pictures! I am attaching an action shot, his Carp pic and a picture of his Catfish! We salute you General! It was truly a fun day!

Rub a Dub Dub

The ALVA D wasn’t the only DRCFA boat Carpin’ today. There were three men in the WILLIAM G tub. Chuck “Snap Daddy” Wolf, Ken “The Webmaster” Higginbotham and Billy Turner rounded out the crew. Chuck and Ken didn’t get skunked today but at press time Billy “Empty Hook” Turner was still struggling.

Until next time, Keep on Carpin'
