The  Return of the Webmaster !!

mar15record.jpg (16262 bytes)

Each year toward the end of March, the Swallows return to San Juan, Capistrano. For generations they have returned. It is an uncontrollable desire that compels them to come back. Such was the case with my guest today. After being away from the ALVA D for a while, Ken 'The Webmaster' extraordinaire returned to his first love. He couldn't help it! Just like the Swallows, it was totally out of his control! If you look in the archives of the LaFavor Chronicles www.douglascountyga.com and click on March 15th you will note that Ken became our first Carp King of the year! That seems so special yet so long ago. Ken uses more Zebco's than a spider has legs, but there was another secret to his success. Just check out that picture! No one in their right mind fishes for Carp when it's freezing! How cold was it? If you can see the picture you will note the lack of leaves on the trees. You may also notice that the 'master' is wrapped up and clothed like he was ready to board a sleigh and deliver presents! He had more clothes on under that Army jacket than a shoplifter at Arbor Place Mall! But that is old news and that was the month of March. What about today? Five months later in the hot and humid month of August. What did the Webmaster do under these conditions? I thought you'd never ask??.

We began our morning by eating breakfast at the Golden Corral breakfast buffet. For you out-of-towners the Corral is sometimes referred to as 'the trough'. A fella can belly up there and eat until he is belly up. It is wonderful. I figured if we ate there we would have no need (or very little need) for snacks on the ALVA D today. The brethren at CLBC were meeting there at 7:30 for a devotion and time of prayer so we joined them before today's adventure.

Due to the above we anchored later than usual. The water wasn't too muddy. There wasn't much wind. It looked promising. We fished several favorite holes with no luck. I finally managed a small Carp and Ken picked up a Catfish. It looked to be about 100 yrs old. It had some old war wounds and several bumps and bruises. Then the dry spell hit. It was a couple of hours before we found success and even then it was at our last desperation spot. Ken never gave up! He was an optimist to the end. I think the magic must be in the equipment he uses. A man is only as good as his tools. I am attaching a picture of Ken with his circa 1962 Johnson reel combo. Believe it or not, a grown man actually fishing with such stuff! As always, the proof is in the pudding! The webmaster came through and we finally caught a total of 8 Carp and the one catfish ( not to mention the ones that got away). I am humbly attaching the old Captain's 3 pound catch of the day along with Ken and his fine rod and reel! I think Ken caught the most today. I'm sure the 5-6 rods he used had nothing to do with the final results.

Life Lesson

Ken returned to the ALVA D today and we had a great reunion. Maybe it’s been a while since you were in church. Wouldn’t tomorrow be a great opportunity to return? What a reunion that could be! Speaking of opportunities, I have been given the wonderful occasion to bring the morning message at out church at 10:30 am on Sunday the 17th of August. I would love to invite each and every one of you to attend and bring someone with you. If you cannot come please pray for me as I prepare for this special time. If you need directions please e-mail me or click on the site below my signature. I would love to see the church full that morning.

Until next time, Keep on Carpin'
