We can’t Hep it! Regatta go Carpin’ !!

The DRCFA bursted forth today with a flotilla of fun! Three DRCFA boats gathered on this marvelous misty morning to pursue the glorious golden ghosts of glory. What a convoy! What an armada! A task force like this hasn’t been seen on Dog River in years! Who were they and what were the results? I was hoping you would ask that question.

Boat#1 was manned by Ted and Matt "The Turtle Slayer" Umphrey. Matt and Ted bass fished for a while and finally anchored and settled in to some real fishing. Although Matt caught a fine 3 lb Bass, the highlight of the morning was a fine Snapping Turtle caught on a chicken liver.

Boat#2 included Captain Ken Higginbotham and first mate Bryan Harrell aboard the recently christened WILLIAM G. You may fish a lifetime and not see accessories like those aboard the WILLIAM G. Of particular note are the custom chairs that Greg Nunnelly dubbed, "Carp Chaises". Ken and Bryan caught several fish this morning including a 3 pounder which put Bryan on the scoreboard! It is so cool to have a teenager in the top 5! Way to go Bryan!

In the 3rd boat of the morning was the Ol’ Captain and his guest and new friend Joel "Fly Rod" Fegarido. This wonderful chap is a co-worker of Ken’s and was a joy to spend the morning with. Joel out fished yours truly four Carp to two. Joel also bagged a small bass on his Orvis Fly Rod. I look forward to Joel returning to the ALVA D later in the spring.

I will be sending a picture of Joel with his 2 1/2 pounder and adding some other pictures later. The Umphrey's were still on the lake at press time so if I need to update the scoreboard I will do it later tonight.

Current Standings as of 3:28 PM 4/19/03.

(Please note that the DRCFA will be awarding prizes to the top 5 finishers after the Thanksgiving Day cut-off date.)

Just when you thought it was safe....

Just check out Captain Ken Higginbotham and first mate Bryan Harrell ! You might be a redneck if you put your wife's lawn chairs in your boat. And just look at poor Bryan! A kid should not be under such stress!

How many lines do you actually have in the water there, Captain?
