I lied. I said I
would not return to Dog River until spring. But school is out and it was warmer today.I
just couldn't hep it! After waxing poetically about the Christmas Carp this morning, I
just had to go! I also went for another reason. It just didn?t seem fair to end the year
without Ken Higginbotham fishing aboard the ALVA D. That?s right! Ken made his debut
today. We all know that a man is known by his tackle. When Charles Turner first came
aboard and I saw those vintage Mitchell 300?s I knew it wasn't his first rodeo. Ken came
aboard today and had more Zebco reels than Bill's Flea Market! I knew immediately he was
my kind of fisherman! Before boarding the ALVA D it was given a white glove inspection. He
noted the $ 60 worth of rod holders (on a $400 boat) and made appropriate comments. He
noticed each and every upgrade and seemed quite impressed. I knew then that I had made a
new friend. We discussed our worst jobs and he won hands down (and tails up!) We chunked
corn out as well as some chicken liver today but it just wasn't meant to be. The Christmas
Carp was nowhere to be found. I did seem to hear a sound in the distance .....It was the
Christmas Carp! I heard him exclaim as he swam out of site,"Merry Christmas to all
but I just ain't gone bite!" Until next time!
