I know that I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer But I
have finally discovered how to be the best fisherman in the boat. GO ALONE !
Today on Dog River was exceptional. River was up and muddy.
Light rain and mist. Lots of food obviously being washed into and down the creek. Didn't
get anchored until 9:30 am. Once anchored I was in paradise for approximately the next two
hours. I caught 5 Carp on Green Giant shoepeg corn and 11 catfish that weighed in at a
total of 20 pounds!! I cat was 4 1/2 lbs and another was 3 1/2 lbs. Yes, I have witnesses
and pictures as well.
Other than the conditions I will share two small secrets of
success:
1) I used shrimp for bait. It was the "peel and eat
" kind available today at your local Publix for $7.99 a pound. ( I bought 1/2 pound.
2) I wore Sam Marlow's Rain Poncho ( he doesn't know this but
I thought I might have a better chance of catching fish this way.)
Whatever the case, I caught 'em all and for today I was the
best fisherman on the ALVA D !
Another point of interest is when I cleaned the fish their
tummies were full of crawfish and other small crustaceans.
If you inspected my tummy today you would find Pop Tarts,
P-nut butter crackers and of course, several "peel and eat" shrimp. I can't
believe I forgot the cocktail sauce! I washed it all down with Publix Cherry Coke. Ah
yes..........a bottom bumpers dream day.
If Alva D were alive today he would be proud of his boy.He
would have said..."Well done!" As important as that would be, I wonder how proud
our Heavenly Father is of us? When we meet Him what will He say about us? You might
ask..."I don't know where to start." Let me suggest that we meet Him in His
house tomorrow.
