| Kenefick, Texas is located seven miles north of Dayton on FM 1008. The Kenefick Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) was founded in 1978 by Jim Adams, Nick Hamleton, Gary Holley, Bob Hurgmueller, Ernie Kaufman, BF Williams, and Mike Vernon. As a very rural area of Liberty County, Kenefick and its surrounding area were in need of a fire department to respond to emergencies. Throughout the 90s, much of south Liberty County, including Kenefick experienced a rapid growth in population. Along with this growth, came the need for a new type of fire department; one that could not only answer fire calls, but could also assist residents in times of medical crisis. Because Kenefick was rural, the local emergency medical services (EMS) response time was long due to the distance they had to travel. The KVFD sent several firefighters to be trained as emergency care attendants (ECA). As a result of the overwhelming success of this training, an emergency medical technician (EMT) class was held at the Kenefick Fire Station for the KVFD as well as several other local fire departments. In the late 90s, the KVFD became a state certified First Responder Organization. Currently, the KVFD services more than 25 square miles and approximately 4,000 residents. Averaging about 75 calls a year, and with an ISO rating (fire insurance rating) of 9, the KVFD continues to grow. As we look to the future, the growth of the community will require more advanced service. With the dedication of all the men and women of the KVFD, these needs will be met. Advancements in both the fire fighting and EMS fields have made things possible that the founding members of this department could only have dreamt about. In its 23 years of service, the KVFD has come a long way. However, with a growing demand for fire department and EMS services in this area, the journey is still in its prime. |
| If you would like to become a member of the Kenefick Fire Department we invite you to come join us. We hold regular drills each Thursday of the week at 7pm. However we do not meet if there is a 5th Thursday in a month. We invite you to attend and put in an application with us. |
