Wyhrahn and Reffai
Reffai repressed a scream as she dashed away from her persuer. Where is Wyhrahn? Where is he?! the seventeen-year-old half-lepord ducked under a tropic tree and continued running. Reffai was supposed to lead the small group of enemy hunters to a place where Wyhrahn was going to kill them with his bow. Reffai tripped on a root she hadn't seen, the girl continued to scramble on, using all four limbs. Tears began to leak from Reffai's eyes, Why did I agree to this? she wailed mentally, I'm a healer not a fighter! Reffai scrambled into a clearing, still trying to regain her feet. Reffai stumbled and fell to the ground again as the hunters entered the clearing. HELP ME! Reffai screamed mentally, the only way should would, she could, really. The sudden wooshing in the air above her took the teen completely by surprise. Looking up her eyes widened as she saw a silver-blue dragon in the air above her. The hunters paused on the edge of the clearing, spears held infront of them as if the wood would be any help to them if the dragon decided to attack. The dragon landed with a thump between Reffai and the hunters, practically over top of Reffai, extended its neck and let loose a deafening roar.
Reffai could hear the exclamations from the hunters, then saw from between the dragons legs, as they turned tail and fled. The dragon stepped delicately away from the half-lepord and the rider slid off the back. Reffai quickly dashed the tears from her eyes and scrambled to her feet, putting her staff between herself and the woman approaching her.
"I'm not going to hurt you," the woman said placatingly.
Reffai lowered her staff slightly, "Who're you?" she demanded.
"My name is Valecaea, and this beauty is Zalaeith."
"Reffai," the girl responded simply. Her yellow and black ear twitched slightly, swivling to one side, she sniffed once slightly. "Wyhrahn!" she snapped. The youth crept out of the forest to Reffai's right, "Where were you?" she asked, tears coming to her eyes again as she turned to look at the boy.
The half-tiger motioned with a blood-covered spear, "I was a little tied up," he said tersely.
Reffai turned resolutely away from her companion, "How did you get here?"
You called me, said a voice in her head.
"I w-what?"
You called for help and I answered.
Reffai turned to Valecaea, "Is it talking to me?" she asked incredulously.
It?!
"Her," Valecaea corrected gently. "Yes she is."
"So I... c-called her?"
Valecaea nodded, "When you called out."
Reffai nodded slowly. Zalaeith raised her head slightly, looking down her nose at Reffai and Wyhrahn, then she must have said something to Valecaea because the woman looked up at her dragon, "Really?" Zalaeith nodded, Valecaea looked at the two teens again. "It looks like you two are coming to Abri."
Wyhrahn looked suspicious, "Where?"
"Nidus Abri. It's where Zalaeith and I are from."
The half-tiger growled softly, "Why?"
"Because Zalaeith thinks you'd make good partners for dragons."
Wyhrahn opened his mouth to say something but Reffai cut him off, "Do we have to come back?"
"Not if you don't want to," Valecaea said softly.
I don't care what it's like as long as I never have to come back to this place! "I'll go." Reffai said resolutely.
Wyhrahn's mouth dropped open and he sputtered for a moment. "Well I can't let you go alone," he finally got out.
Valecaea smiled, "Then let's go!"
A very cold Wyhrahn gripped his spear tightly. That... blackness. That utter emptyness had been colder and more terrifying than anything Wyhrahn had ever experienced.
Looking around after the cold was gone, Wyhrahn saw that Reffai looked paler than usual, but still excited. Nidus Abri was spread out below them and Wyhrahn felt his pulse quicken.
A dragon...
Wyhrahn and Reffai are Novo at Nidus Abri.
