In 1983, I went to look at a proud young breeder's first litter. Gail Nelson of Bertnel Collies, had bred her foundation bitch, Ch. Kendale Karesma for Shepody C.D to Ch. Nationview Yankee Doodle Dandy. Gail had already picked out the sable bitch and tri male she wanted to keep. She had homes for three more. There was one puppy left to place and Gail had no idea what do do with her. She was a bossy, busy-body, bratty puppy, who was the smallest in the litter. I stood back and watched the puppies for a while, my gaze kept being drawn to that tri-color female and she kept looking at me. Over the course of five minutes a bond was being created that could never be broken. Needless to say I drove home with a tiny ball of black fluff already named " Sizzle" chewing at my stick shift, who was destined to go on to be one of the great influences on the Collie breed at many Canadian and U.S Kennels, and is One of Canada's all time top producing Dams. She also set the style of "what the collie is" here at Kendale. Her triumphs in the show ring could only be equalled by her antics as top banana at home.
