God wants us to listen. In the struggle of Human vs. Spiritual, when Human wins we may feel we've made a short term gain but actually may have incurred a long term loss. Those terrible headlines we read come about when human emotions win; greed, anger, lust for power, etc. God wants us to calm down, set the emotions aside, 'take a deep breath' or 'count to ten' as the pop psychologists say. Calm the emotions, clear the mind, and let the subtle voice inside be heard. That voice is the Soul talking.
Be careful. Other voices talk too, and they may not be the benevolent ones we seek for inspiration. They may try to instill us with guilt or anger or despair and should be set aside.
God wants us to give Him thanks. A lot of people say a prayer of grace before a meal but there are so many other things to be thankful for. We know what they are without making a list. With Gratitude is the way to approach God. Think 'thanks' for everything that comes into our lives, even those difficult things that are said to build character. Our Souls learn from those events and so we should be grateful for the lessons. It isn't easy.
Does God want our money? No. God doesn't need money. If we give willingly (not out of a sense of guilt, that is) to church or charity then give. Churches need money to pay the bills of maintaining a building, and charities and churches do benevolent things with the money that is donated. Give, but we aren't giving to God.
