Thank God for Christ
It's a blessing that we have the history of the Son of God who lived among us and was crucified for having opposed the establishment. I'm not sure how being crucified frees the rest of us from sin but that's the story.
The word 'sin' has always been a stickler for me because of the implications that come with it: 'bad,' 'damned,' 'hellfires,' etc. on and on. How many times have I been told by well-meaning people that I'm a sinner, that I was born into sin, etc. etc.? I hate it. My beloved daughter Cassidy gave me an important insight when she suggested inserting the word 'human' for the word 'sin.' After that it made sense.
OK. Given the whole Jesus/crucifixion/freed from sin thing, it makes me curious why so many Christian churches continue to dwell on the issue of sin, satan, damned to hell for eternity and all that rot. It's a primitive belief that carries an obvious contradiction and must cause confusion, that is dis-ease, among many believers.
If 'sinning' refers to being human, that is having human feelings, emotions, and desires, and if we're freed, repeat FREED from it, then why don't we stop thinking about it and instead celebrate the wonderful human lives we've been given and enjoy being human.
Thanks to Jesus, we are free from worry that we're humans! Let's go forth and BE humans then and stop with the whole satan/hell crap. For me that is the meaning of Easter. Thank God.
