Very much like a person drives his car, if you take one driver out and put another driver in, the car may behave differently on the road, one fast and reckless, for instance, and another slow and cautious. Some people with gifts of spirit are able to do this. They relinquish their own Spirit for a time and allow another Spirit to visit their body, and express themselves through it. Jane Roberts did this when she channeled Seth and allowed him to dictate several books.
Other times it happens unwillingly.
"The Many Minds of Billy Milligan" is an excellent book on the issue of what we commonly call 'multiple personalities.' In some cases of severe emotional trauma the Soul is so weakened that it opens up and allows other Spirits to enter the body, discarnate Spirits that have lost their way or chosen not to go Home, thus becoming a 'multiple personality' person. Psychologists interview the individual personalities, trying in vain to fuse them into one. In the book, one 'personality' states emphatically "We are not personalities. We are people!"
"God is my Co-Pilot" or "God is my Pilot" isn't just a license plate. It's reality. God, through our Spirit/Soul, drives our bodies to the extent that we don't allow human emotions to over-ride that energy.
Egyptian dead, at least those of importance, were wrapped in a ribbon of cloth, thus enclosing the body and helping to create the mummy. On the cloth is written a prayer that the body carries to Heaven with him, a prayer to those who are expected to receive him. One Egyptian "Prayer of the Dead" begins "I come from the land of the Double Fire." This refers to the human existence in which we are driven by two inner fires, that of Spirit and that of the human emotions. Shirley McClaine also expressed this belief in her book first book, where she writes about the struggle between the Mind and the Spirit, how we go back and forth from one inspiration to the other, all the time under God's light, thus Dancing in the light," a wonderful title.
