Manicougan is probably the result of an impact with our planet in the distant past. Barringer Crater, in the Southwestern USA, is another impact structure that has been well preserved because of its desert location being fairly protected from erosion. Craters and other features that only show up once in awhile are part of the remote sensing game. The Iturralde Structure in Bolivia only showed up on one Landsat image for reasons that still aren't clear. It may very well represent the last great impact to have struck the planet - about 12,000 years ago. NASA scientists are working to unravel that mystery and should be able to confirm this or not soon.
