The real CF-CQZ was owned by Lloyd Winterburn, he was one of Tex's F86 Sabre buddies from the RCAF. Sadly , Mr. Winterburn passed away in 99 and the Cub was sold. click on photos to enlarge them.

The model CF-CQZ was built by C.W. (Tex) Gehman aka Sabrejock. The 1/4 scale model was built from the Sig kit. The model has flow with a number of different power plants from slimers to electric  Astro 40G.

I bought the model in the fall of 2000. I am currently installing a Ryobi 31cc gas motor on CH ignition. I chose the Ryobi because of the rear carburetor, rear exhaust set up on the engine fits in the narrow cub cowl very nicely. The CH ignition gets rid on the big fly wheel up front. The first thing I had to do was fashion a plate mount to fit on the existing firewall. If I used the JAG mount, the engine would be too far out front and I did not want to cut out and move the existing firewall. The engine now sits inside the fuselage a bit, I made a top hatch to have access to the carburetor.

Next step is to cut the bottom of the  cowl for spark plug access.

Dec 24/00 - Cub is complete, ready to fly in the spring. Takeoff weight is 14.5 pounds with the Ryobi engine.

Just a small part of the spark plug cover sticks out the bottom.

The Cub is a sweetheart to fly and the Ryobi swings a 18x8 prop. At 1/4 throttle the model flies at scale speed and one can do touch and goes until the cows come home.
