The Baseball Database is a combination of an historical database and a Windows application which provides access to that database. All on the hard drive of your PC. It is intended to complement other sources. It provides a fresh and different way to enjoy the most interesting data. All the all-time leaders.
The design has a single menu. It also has common command buttons on most windows. Learning to navigate should be instinctive and consistent. There is almost no need to use the keyboard, only the mouse. No need to learn syntax. Merely click the various options.
This product is intended for a mature audience. It is perfect for use in the office. Unlike a game, a casual glance at your PC screen gives the impression that you are working. Employee morale will soar as your co-workers gather around your cubicle to settle those water cooler arguments:
Did Gil Hodges ever hit 40 homers? Click menu Batters Season Leaders Alltime since 1876.
How often was Dave Winfield among league leaders in major batting categories? Click menu Batters All, then go to Winfield's record and click the Top 5 button.

*Requires DCOM and MDAC PRIOR to running the BaseBall DataBase setup.*
**********************************************************************
Close ALL programs, including those running in the background such as virus checker.
Then add two Microsoft components: DCOM and MDAC.
Microsoft states that users need to add two Microsoft components: DCOM and MDAC. DCOM is already included in Windows 98 and NT.
Only users running Windows 95 would need to add it. DCOM must be added before
MDAC.
Here are the Microsoft references for these two components.
DCOM to download file dcom95.exe
MDAC to download file mdac_typ.exe
After downloading dcom95.exe and mdac_typ.exe, run them to intall the Microsoft components. Remember, only Windows 95 requires DCOM.
Version 7.0 of the BaseBall DataBase consists of only 8 files (setup.exe, setup.lst plus six .cab files. CAB files contain multiple compressed files. There are no zipped files. This eliminates the need to unzip and reduces the size off any one file being backup up.
Run setup.exe
During setup, if asked to choose between versions of a file, always choose the newer version.
setup.exe - 139,776 bytes
setup.lst - 5,885 bytes

Ken,
The check's in the mail! Can't wait for the start of the
new season.
Being an avid Indians fan, I score every game on my
computer. Your
database lets me score the game while having instant access to a
player's
stats, without fumbling with a dozen different books.
It's a great
program. Nothing else even comes close!
Thanks again,

Hi, Ken. I want to thank you for all the hard work you put in to create that data base. I know how hard it is - I used to play a lot of APBA, and it was the stats that finally forced me to stop.

Dear Ken,
I am sending my check and my thanks for allowing me to use your
baseball database. Sorry it took so long for me to send this but
,never the less, I felt I owed you an e-mail to express my
thanks. The database has been an invaluable tool in my research
and has saved me MANY, MANY hours of book- looking. It also has
given me a plethora of questions to which I can now use to stump
my SABR friends. Again, sorry it took so long and thanks for
developing it.
Sincerely,

Dear Ken,
Enclosed is a check for $35 for your Baseball Database. I've
really enjoyed using this program to search for interesting
stats. I was referred to your web site by a fellow SABR (Society
of American Baseball Research) member. As a relatively new SABR
member, I've found that your program is invaluable for doing
research...
I've had a good time playing with this software. Keep up the
great work.

subject matter... I look forward to more interesting articles

Wow, what a magnificent effort. Thanks for informing me. Is there

What's next? Games by position? Fielding stats? Only seamheads
like me would dare to ask. The ease and speed are best I've seen.
When I bought the Macmillan CDROM, I was so disappointed.
Apparently no one else liked it either because I haven't seen any
updates. Again, thanks.

Ken,

interest.

Thu, 12 Mar 1998
Kenneth,
Thank you for your very quick and informative response. It
exemplifies one of the advantages of dealing with small shareware
companies over large software 'giants,' who tend to become
impersonal. Thank you, also, for visiting our website. We are new
to web page design and are learning new techniques every week!
I appreciate your encouragement to look at the team names, and
will do so, as a means of stimulating my sons' interest. We will
be looking for ways to incorporate Baseball, including stats
& stories, into our homeschool Unit Studies, since we are
home schooling our children.
We will be signing up the two older boys, 5 & 6, for
"T-Ball" next month in Meridian, a town about half 'way
between Boise and Nampa. If your sister has email, have her send
my wife (Becky) a note.
Thanks again, Ed Livingston+

Dear Ken,
Downloaded and installed your database. Very, very nice piece of
work!! Pretty darn high quality if you ask me, and even if you
don't ask me.
Read your essay on rating players using the Top 5 numbers. I am
thinking out some type of commentary to make. Just off the top of
my head, it seems I have concerns about colinearity of most of
the items. You know, more HR's probably lead to more RBI's, and
so forth.
My check will be in the mail as soon as my loving wife, Ste.
Shirley, writes it out. Really enjoy the datbase though. Thanks a
million.
Sincerely and thankfully,
Walt Batchelder

Ziff Davis Software Library gives BaseBall DataBase FIVE STARS!
"The BaseBall DataBase is a Windows 95 database that
provides quick access to all the statistics that a real baseball
fan can't live without. Using an intuitive interface for
mouse-only navigation, you can quickly compare hitters, pitchers,
teams, and ballparks from the start of professional baseball to
the present day. Nearly every conceivable stat is recorded, and
with a click or two you can drill-down to the best of the best.
Want to check Greg Maddux's best five years? No problem. Was
Koufax better? Comparison is easy. You can even compare ballpark
capacity and the dates the parks were built. Incredibly complete,
The BaseBall DataBase is a must-have for any serious baseball
fan. All the historic database info is included through the '98 season. Reviewed on Apr 16 1999.
