| 1971 MG Midget: purchase: Aug 2000 Restoration started: April 2003 car repairs since Aug 2000 * brake master cylinder / back brakes replaced / several brake lines * clutch master cylinder * rear wheel bearings * new battery / built a battery hold down * all new heater hoses * tune up * lots of elect work * worked on gages / replaced oil-water temp gadge * found a heater on ebay (car had no heater) * replace lots of the bulbs in the dash * removed dash and found it needs some work * generator failed / put in new generator, regulator and starter cylinoid * car needs supension work or front wheel bearings or both * clutch slave failed, lost hydraulic fluid ( STARTED RESTORING - April 2003) * removed hood and fenders and front panels ( had a hard time with passenger fender and found that side rusted badly) . Dammit, scratched the fenders when I took the hood off!! * removed radiator (needs new one, old one has several welds on it) * removed Engine and Trans (April 18th) - removed bell housing and found that the clutch release bearing was in pieces laying in the bottom of the bell housing. Now I know why my clutch failed. (see pic on prev page) - removed the oil pan from the eng and found lots of metal chips. Removed one of the connecting rods and found that the bearing was worn out. That explains why I had really low oil pressure. * removed wiring ( the wiring on this car is not worth saving) * removed all other parts under hood (wiper motors, master cylinders etc...) |
