SIMPLE PLEASURE
One night, in a dream,
I was permitted to pay a visit to
Heaven.
The first thing I noticed was
all of the souls.
There were hundreds of
thousands of millions of souls.
Everywhere I looked, there were
souls, as far as I could
see.
The
next thing I noticed was the happiness.
All of the souls were incredibly happy.
They were far happier than I have ever felt in my entire
life.
Their happiness was constant and perfect.
But
where, I
wondered, are the pleasures?
Where are the beautiful views
and the endless parties?
Where are the amusement parks
and the passionate music?
Where are all of the wonderful
things we imagine we will
find in Heaven?
Then I had to wonder why
the souls were so happy.
Without anything to enjoy,
where was causing their happiness?
They weren't even interacting
with one another in any way.
It was a tremendous mystery to
me.
Then, suddenly, the
answer came to me.
The souls were CONTENT.
They were perfectly, endlessly,
absolutely CONTENT.
And now I know that CONTENTMENT
is
the key to the ultimate
happiness.
