A boy trained his dog not to go into the street without his explicit
permission. When the training was complete, he let his dog off the
leash so she could run as fast as she wanted to, because as long as she
stayed out of the streets, she was safe.
One day,
after about a month, she decided to walk into an interstate highway.
Fortunately, one of the drivers stopped and rescued her.
So after that, the boy kept his dog on her leash and began training her
again. After two full months of training, he became satisfied that she
understood and would obey. So he let her off the leash again.
And she was perfectly obedient for eight whole months. But then, one day, she entered the highway again...
You are that dog. Your Lord sets boundaries to protect you from sin.
You don't understand why you should respect them, but He
trains you using methods that are relatively clear to you,
and with time, you learn to obey faithfully.
After some time, the training stops. And the temptation to cross the
boundaries calls to you. So one day, you rationalize that it is not so
bad to give in to the temptation, just this once...
