KEN
SAMUEL IS NOT A POLITICIAN
In elections, we must vote for one
politician or another. Either way, the winner will be a person who has
selected politics as a career. In
my opinion, the very concept of career politicians is obscene. If a
person
devotes his/her life to politics, then that person's salary is
dependent on his/her winning elections. If he/she loses an election,
then he/she must find some other less-desirable job. So, it's not
surprising that career politicians are desperate to win elections, and
they're willing to do whatever is necessary in order to win, regardless
of the moral implications. This is not the way it was meant to be.
Also, career politicians tend to have a tremendous desire for power and
fame. This is often their motivation. And since losing an election can
end a political career, shattering the politician's dreams of power and
fame, they will do whatever it takes to win elections, regardless of
the moral implications. This is not the way it was meant to be.
Many children dream of becoming President of the United
States. They see it as a goal to strive for. They see it as a career to
work toward. Although they don't yet know what kinds of immoral
behavior is required to be a successful politician, they can commit
themselves to this goal before they learn the truth. And when they do,
they may be unable or unwilling to change career directions. This is
not the way it was meant to be.
So how was it meant to be? Well, consider the first President of the
United States, George Washington. He had no need for money, fame, or
power. He already had all that as a result of his great success as the
victorious general in the Revolutionary War. So why did he enter the
election? It was because the Americans wanted him to run for President. It was the
desires of the people that motivated him. So he decided to forego
retirement and volunteer to serve the people of his country for
a few years.
This is the attitude that a candidate for President should have. He/she
should be volunteering to serve the people if they so desire. If they
don't accept his/her offer, then that should not be a personal crisis for the candidate. Why should
anyone want to serve people who explicitly say that they don't want
his/her service?
So, what about me? Well, I was born and raised in the great nation of
The United States of America. When I was a child, I didn't know how
terribly difficult my life could have been if I had been born in
certain other countries. But now I do, and I deeply appreciate the
freedom and security that I was blessed with. I truly love my nation.
Unfortunately, American children today cannot be as blissfully ignorant
of all the evil in the world. There is no way to ignore the need for
security in a nation at war. And as security increases, freedom
decreases.
I want the children of today to have the blessings I had as a child. And when
they grow up, I want them to live in a great strong nation, as I did.
Unfortunately, America is losing her power, and I fear that the fall of
the American empire could occur in their lifetimes if our government
continues to work its own short-term personal gains, rather than working
for the good of the nation in the long term. And I believe I can
reverse that trend.
For these reasons, I hereby volunteer to serve the American people, if
they so desire.
