My Garage Workshop

My shop is set up in a recessed space in my garage. It wasn't easy to fit everything into the space, especially when so much of it is used by my ammo reloading area. I generally use this area for metalwork or woodwork, sawing, painting, and generally anything that creates a mess. For more delicate gunsmithing work, I have an area set aside in my room above the garage.

On my main workbench sits my Grizzly mini-mill and a large bench vise. Underneath is a rolling tool cabinet where I store my mill tooling, and a set of shelves containing my files, chisels, hex keys, and other tools that have their own case (like my tap & die set, parallel set, etc.). I store my files and chisels in old kitchen silverware organizers. My hex keys are mounted on a board that can be slid out like a drawer for easy access, as you can see in the second photo to the right.

Across the back wall is a shallow bench that supports my Harbor Freight mini-lathe, bench grinder, and belt sander. On a shelf under this bench I keep another tool cabinet for my lathe tooling, and a couple of blocks with my punches. Under this shelf I have a couple of milk crates containing aluminum, steel, and other small pieces of scrap metal stock. Also underneath the bench sits a two-drawer file cabinet (it's too ugly to keep in the house) where I store my sandpaper in separate hanging files. The bottom drawer is where I keep all my owner's manuals for my tools.

Along the right wall of the garage I have a wastebasket where I store my long metal and wood scraps, a drill press on a pedestal, and a bench built for my sandblasting cabinet. My air compressor sits below, and I can plug its air hose into the cabinet or the 50ft. air hose you see on the reel to the right. To the right of the bench I store my extra powdered abrasive and glass beads, and on top are my pistol bluing pots. To the right of them sits my propane cooker, which I use to heat my bluing salts.
