Why ban Jackson's album, Mita?
I AM curious as to why Mita banned Janet Jackson's latest album, All For You ('No to Janet's explicit lyrics'; ST, June 5).
Who are we trying to protect from the sexually explicit lyrics in her album?
I suppose the answer is 'all Singaporeans'. In that case, I would argue that there is an even greater threat to the morality of males aged 18 and above.
This threat comes from the far more intense and explicit English and Hokkien swear words that are uttered in army camps daily.
Surely, if Jackson's lyrics were unacceptable, then the sexually explicit words used in army camps would be likewise.
Should Mita then argue for a ban of such words, on the grounds that they are not acceptable to our society?
