About The Pottery The Colonel's Pottery presents the best of traditional craftmanship blended with excellent practicality of design. Mark Essig established this line to produce handmade, personalized pottery of a highly disciplined and consistant nature. The pottery is hand thrown using traditional methods, not with molds or jiggers. As each piece dries, it is personalized, and handles are pulled and attached. Each is then decorated, glazed and fired to temperatuers above 2300 degrees fahrenheit. The slight variations in shape, size and color which occur as a result of the handmade process simply enhance each design; regardless of its function, each piece retains its own special character. The Colonel's Pottery is lead-free and both dishwasher and microwave safe. It can be used in convectional ovens as long as extreme temperature changes are avoided. Please do not place the pots over a direct flame. Located in the historic town of Marianna, PA. just 7 miles off RT 79., the studio continues its tradition of creating distinctive, handmade stoneware.
