Each year in December, my church, along with a few other churches, holds an event called Mission in Mexico.
The people in Mission in Mexico organize a Christmas Festival for over 600 people in Jerez. Most people have no water, plumbing, heat, or electricity. Many of them are completely homeless/starving.
The goal of my Gold Award is to assemble as many kits as possible for needy families in Mexico. My goal is for each kit to contain: one blanket, two articles of clothing (t-shirt, sweatpants, etc.), two clothing accessories (scarves, hates, gloves, etc.), one pair of shoes, one bar of soap, one bottle of shampoo, two toothbrushes, two tubes of toothpaste, and one toy.
I will be making blankets, t-shirts, scarves, and hats. The blankets will mostly be for toddlers and the rest will be for children.
The hats will be knitted, crocheted, sewn, and loomed.
I plan to crochet and knit the blankets and scarves.
I am sewing t-shirts. I am also going to write to bring corporate companies (i.e. Hanes) and ask for any possible t-shirts they can donate.
I am also collecting people�s clothing, such as sweatpants and sweatshirts(relatively used), and shoes (gently worn.
I am collecting NEW hygenic supplies such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, etc. I would greatly appreciate donations of hygenic supplies or gift cards to places like Target or Rite Aid.
WHAT DO I NEED FROM YOU?
Of course, I need people to contribute their time to help sew, knit, crochet, or loom. If you know how to crochet or knit, please help with that. If you have a sewing machine and you know how to use it, help with sewing t-shirts would be greatly appreciated. If you don't know how to sew, crochet, or knit, that's okay. People can help me cut fabric from the patterns for the t-shirts. And then there's looming. Looming is a really simple thing to do. I can easily teach you how to do it. It involves yarn and a loomer, and the product would be a very nice beanie hat. I am also available to teach you how to knit or crochet.
I am also writing to big companies who sell/make mass amounts of t-shirts (i.e. Hanes) and asking them for donations of t-shirts that they are throwing out or not using.
I'm doing a lot for my Gold Award. It's really time consuming and it costs a good amount of money. Any donations or time that you can spare is greatly appreciated.

Of course! Your donation of supplies would be GREATLY appreciated. I am constantly needing needles, yarn, cloth, etc. I�m not allowed to take cash donations, but if you don�t want to buy the supplies, Michael�s or JoAnn�s or grocery store gift card would be wonderful.
