The Galaxy class carriers are a remake of an old class of carrier that used to be owned by the Empire. However, cause of the overall layout, the ships couldnt yield the capacity that the empire required for a standard "super carrier". As a result, the Galxies design reflects that of the 20th centruy carriers with the side mounted "Control Tower" and a flat top deck to allow a larger complement of aircaft when needed. A "Hangar" deck that spans the length of the ship also increses storage of aircraft by easily 4x. The lower compartments that originally were part of the old carriers was converted to house more luxuries and storage compartments along with larger living quarters and a secondary "Battle bridge" in the event the main bridge was destroyed. In all, crews of these vessels often say when not in combat, they feel like they are enjoying a cruise and getting paid for it.
